Business Development Officer

Position: Business Development Officer – Home Loans
Organization: DFCU Bank
Location: Kampala, Uganda
Job Type: Full-time
Reports To: Manager – Home Loans

DFCU Bank is seeking to recruit a Business Development Officer – Home Loans to drive the growth of the Bank’s mortgage and home loans portfolio through sales, client service, and retention. The officer will ensure that the portfolio quality aligns with the Bank’s strategic objectives while building strong partnerships and enhancing customer satisfaction.


Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Aggressively grow the mortgages and home loans portfolio by acquiring new customers while maintaining existing client relationships.

  • Develop and nurture relationships with key partners and industry stakeholders to maximize sales opportunities.

  • Coordinate customer engagement activities both onsite and offsite, including online and face-to-face meetings, site visits, and recognition events.

  • Respond to customer queries and complaints promptly, ensuring effective and timely resolutions.

  • Prepare and submit monthly, quarterly, and annual performance reports against set targets.

  • Conduct joint calls with Corporate & Business Banking Relationship Managers to acquire new business and provide feedback.

  • Assess credit requests with the credit department in line with banking credit standards, policies, and procedures, and make appropriate recommendations.

  • Maintain a customer database for relationship management, communication, and networking.

  • Follow up on business files submitted by sellers to ensure quick turnaround time for approvals.

  • Generate new business leads from inquiries across various bank segments.


Qualifications, Skills, and Experience

  • A university degree in a relevant field.

  • Practical training in business development and financial services growth.

  • At least 3 years of banking experience in a sales-related role.

  • Strong sales, negotiation, and influencing skills.

  • In-depth understanding of the home loans and mortgages sector.

  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Knowledge of consumer banking products including features, pricing, benefits, and promotions.

  • High proficiency in computer applications, numerical and statistical skills.

  • Interpersonal relationship skills, with a self-driven, energetic, and network-oriented personality.

  • Ability to work under pressure, exercise sound judgment, and be a strong team player.

  • Strong organizational and customer service skills, with the ability to deal with clients directly.
