Remuneration: Salary Scale PU12
Age Limit: Applicants must not exceed 55 years of age at the time of application.
Job Purpose
The Assistant Technician in the Department of Geomatics and Land Management at Makerere University plays a vital role in maintaining an efficient and safe laboratory environment. This role is responsible for ensuring standard operating procedures are followed in the workplace, supporting practical learning activities, and assisting in the organization and maintenance of technical equipment and materials.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Clean and organize workplace equipment, tools, and laboratory facilities to ensure a safe and functional environment.
- Implement workplace safety guidelines and regulations to maintain compliance with institutional and legal standards.
- Assist academic staff in preparing and conducting student practicals and laboratory exercises.
- Keep accurate records of materials and equipment used within the department to support inventory management and resource planning.
- Perform any other related duties as assigned by the supervisor or Head of Department.
Required Qualifications
- An Ordinary Diploma in Land Surveying, Geomatics, or a related technical field from a recognized institution.
Skills and Competencies
- Good knowledge of technical equipment and laboratory facilities related to geomatics and land surveying.
- Strong analytical skills to identify and address technical or operational challenges in the workplace.
- Excellent time management to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines effectively.
- High level of safety awareness and the ability to implement safety procedures.
- Strong record-keeping skills to maintain accurate logs of equipment and materials usage.

The successful candidate will be a diligent and responsible individual with practical experience or training in geomatics or land surveying environments. They should be safety-conscious, detail-oriented, and possess strong organizational skills to support both staff and students effectively within a busy academic department.
