The Assistant Relationship Manager will be responsible for managing and growing personal banking relationships while ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction, portfolio quality, and compliance with banking policies. The role focuses on client acquisition, retention, cross-selling of banking products, and effective management of personal banking portfolios at branch level.
Working closely with branch teams, sales units, and support functions, the role contributes directly to achieving branch sales targets, strengthening customer relationships, and supporting sustainable business growth.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Create, manage, and grow client relationships and personal banking accounts to minimize customer attrition.
- Source new personal banking business opportunities in coordination with the sales team and other bank units.
- Participate in targeted product campaigns by clearly explaining banking products and services to customers.
- Cross-sell bank products, including asset products, liability products, and electronic banking solutions.
- Initiate personal loan applications and ensure sound underwriting practices are applied.
- Conduct financial analysis for retail customers applying for personal loans.
- Advise customers verbally or in writing when loan applications do not meet minimum criteria.
- Report declined loan applications and relevant details to the Branch Manager on a daily basis.
- Ensure full adherence to Know Your Customer and Anti-Money Laundering policies and procedures.
- Carry out risk profiling of potential clients and ensure compliance with internal risk management guidelines.
- Prepare and submit accurate and timely reports related to sales, portfolio performance, and customer activities.
- Manage personal banking portfolios and monitor daily branch budgets for personal accounts.
- Monitor overdrawn, inactive, dormant, and zero-balance personal accounts and initiate corrective actions and reports.
- Conduct sales calls and gather market intelligence to support business growth and competitiveness.
- Own and manage personal banking products at branch level and channel sales targets to support outlet objectives.
- Maintain a strong understanding of existing customer profiles and tailor services accordingly.
- Participate in relevant training programmes, courses, and e-learning sessions to enhance professional competence.
- Perform any other duties assigned from time to time in support of branch and bank objectives.
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Finance, or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated experience in a related banking or financial services role.
- Strong understanding of personal banking products, banking policies, and operational procedures.
- Sound knowledge of KCB Bank products and processes, including account opening and KYC documentation.
- Good credit knowledge, including interpretation and analysis of financial statements.
- Understanding of customer behavior and application scoring systems.
- Ability to use relevant credit scoring and underwriting tools.
- Strong understanding of risk management principles and credit assessment procedures.
- Well-developed underwriting skills and understanding of personal credit processes.
- Knowledge of competitors’ products and services within the consumer banking market.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and customer engagement skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a team environment.
