Accounts Payable Accountant

Full-Time | Location: Kampala, Uganda

True North Consult is sourcing for a highly organized and detail-oriented Accounts Payable Accountant on behalf of our client. The ideal candidate will be responsible for processing and maintaining supplier payment systems, managing reconciliations, and ensuring adherence to accounting standards and company policies.

Key Responsibilities:

Payment Processing & Documentation

• Prepare payment approval forms and vouchers, ensuring accuracy and completeness.

• Review all supplier payment vouchers and supporting documents (e.g., PO, GRN, service acknowledgments, invoices, supplier statements, account reconciliations, system printouts).

• Ensure that payments align with contractual terms and are processed within agreed timelines.

• Submit accurate Accounts Payable (AP) input files to the ACE team on time.

• Monitor and validate accruals and provisions to ensure proper financial recording.

Reconciliations & Reporting

• Maintain accurate monthly reconciliations between General Ledger (GL) accruals and the AP sub-ledger.

• Prepare and maintain a provisions template as per guidelines.

• Collect, review, and submit monthly supplier account statements.

• Investigate and resolve reconciling items promptly to ensure accurate supplier balances.

• Submit reconciliations to the Head of Accounts Payable, fully supported with documentation.

• Ensure accurate and timely input of all transactions in accordance with group accounting policies.

• Submit AG Alignment and DTR schedules as per the monthly reporting calendar.

Stakeholder Engagement & Audit Support

• Respond to supplier queries on payments, account balances, and reconciliations promptly.

• Address audit queries (SAD/SUD) during internal, quarterly, and annual audits in a timely and compliant manner.

• Collaborate effectively with internal departments and external stakeholders.

• Perform any other duties as assigned from time to time.

Qualifications & Experience:

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related business discipline.

• Professional qualifications such as ACCA, CPA, ACA, or CIMA are an added advantage.

Experience:

• Minimum of 1 year working experience in a busy accounting environment.

Key Competencies:

• Strong knowledge of financial accounting systems.

• Familiarity with procurement systems and processes.

• Excellent attention to detail and analytical skills.

• High personal standards and goal orientation.

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills (both written and oral).

• Ability to work in a performance-driven and deadline-oriented environment.

• Strong business awareness and problem-solving capabilities.
