Job Overview
ENGIE is seeking a highly motivated, experienced, and disciplined Accounting Manager with a passion for renewable energy, financial inclusion, and entrepreneurship. This is a pivotal role within the Finance Department of a fast-growing company working at the intersection of energy and mobile payment technology.
The Accounting Manager will collaborate with the Head of Finance & Procurement to provide accurate, timely financial information and ensure best practices in accounting, tax, and reporting compliance. The role will help inform strategic growth decisions, portfolio health assessments, and capital-raising initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
-
Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closing processes and reconciliations.

Collaborate on tax compliance, capital structuring, and audit processes with internal and external stakeholders.
-
Develop and maintain globally aligned accounting practices and financial controls.
-
Manage revenue recognition, COGS, expense booking, and banking relationships.
-
Prepare and review financial reports and statements for accuracy and compliance.
-
Maintain and improve the country Chart of Accounts.
-
Ensure compliance with statutory deductions, tax, and governance obligations.
-
Coach and develop the accounting team; implement cross-training and growth plans.
-
Lead Uganda’s budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting processes (BvA).
-
Work with department heads to monitor expenditure and enhance cost efficiency.
-
Manage cash flow, accounts receivable/payable, and monthly reconciliations.
-
Ensure proper inventory accounting and audits in collaboration with Operations.
-
Support debt tracking, debt payments, and covenant compliance in Uganda.
-
Implement and maintain robust internal controls, audit support, and policy recommendations.
-
Liaise across departments to resolve finance-related issues effectively.

Provide data-driven insights to support strategic and operational decisions.

Qualifications & Experience
Education
-
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Commerce, or a related field.

Full professional qualification (ACCA or CPA Uganda) required.
Experience
-
At least 4 years of experience in a multinational or financial institution, ideally with African operations.
-
Proven expertise with accounting systems (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP) and Excel.
-
Familiarity with rural BOP markets, microfinance, mobile telecom, or renewable energy.
-
Strong understanding of ERP systems and intercompany accounting.
-
Experience managing a team and working with cross-functional stakeholders.
-
Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
-
High level of integrity, confidentiality, and initiative.
Language
-
Fluency in English required; additional languages are an advantage.
