Job Summary

Tropical Bank is hiring a qualified Accountant to support its financial operations. The role involves maintaining accurate financial records, preparing Bank of Uganda (BOU) reports, processing transactions, submitting taxes, reconciling accounts, and supporting compliance, budgeting, and reporting processes in alignment with IFRS and regulatory standards.

✅ Key Responsibilities

• Prepare monthly financial and management reports for internal and external stakeholders.

• Ensure compliance with financial controls, especially in fixed asset management.

• Update and maintain the General Ledger with all financial transactions.

• Process and post approved payment vouchers in the Core Banking System.

• Support in preparing statutory and regulatory reports (e.g., BOU returns, IFRS compliance, tax submissions).

• Perform regular reconciliations (suspense and Nostro accounts).

• Ensure timely payments to creditors.

• Assist with variance analysis between actual and budgeted performance.

• Conduct fixed asset verifications and maintain asset registers.

• Support end-of-month provisions and amortization schedules.

• Participate in internal and external audit preparations, implementing recommendations.

• Collaborate on financial planning and budgeting, including data consolidation from departments and branches.

• Review off-balance sheet items and confirm accuracy with Credit Department.

Qualifications & Requirements

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field.

• Enrollment in a professional accounting program (e.g., ACCA, CPA) is required.

Experience

• At least 2 years of accounting or banking experience, preferably in a financial institution.

Skills

• Strong numerical and analytical capabilities

• Proficient understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting

• Competence in using financial systems and tools

• Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills

• Effective communication and stakeholder management

• High ethical standards, integrity, and organizational skills

• Knowledge of IFRS, banking regulations, and tax compliance
