Join the Finance Team at the British High Commission Kampala
The British High Commission (BHC) in Kampala is seeking to recruit a highly motivated and experienced Accountant to join its dynamic Finance Team. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring effective, compliant, and timely accounting and financial reporting functions in accordance with UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) financial regulations.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
Accounting and Compliance
-
Ensure compliance with FCDO Financial Policies and guidelines on Distribution Sets, Invoices, Credit/Debit Memos, and NPAs.

Lead on reconciling balance sheet accounts using the TAR (Transactions Available for Reconciliation) report.
Financial Reporting

Prepare accurate and timely reports on:
-
Network Post Accounts (NPA)
-
Imprest Audit Returns (IAR)
-
Bank Account Audit Reports
-
Tax Reconciliation Reports
-
Cash and Treasury Management
-
Manage the Cash Office, ensuring cash availability and verifying payment files.
-
Monitor and forecast Post liquidity levels, submitting funding requests to regional account managers.

Maintain strong banking relationships, handle signatory documentation, and reconcile daily bank statements.
Regulatory Compliance and Taxation
-
Coordinate with Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) on BHC tax returns.
-
Process VAT and fuel duty claims and refunds for individual diplomats.
-
Submit payroll data to GTPC and ensure compliance with NSSF and statutory requirements.
Stakeholder Engagement
-
Serve as the primary liaison with GTPC, URA, and banking partners.
-
Provide support to budget holders and train staff on compliance with GTPC and UK accounting procedures.
-
Flag financial control risks to the Finance Manager and advise on gaps in staff debt recovery or liquidity management.
Process Improvement & Support
-
Assist the Finance Analyst in due diligence, internal audits, and partner finance reviews.

Contribute to team-wide activities such as budgeting, financial gap analysis, and finance clinics.
Essential Qualifications, Skills, and Experience
-
A University Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.

At least 3 years’ professional experience in a finance or accounting role.

Strong presentation skills with the ability to explain financial information clearly to stakeholders.

Proven ability to develop and improve finance systems and processes.

Experience working with Microsoft Excel and ERP-based accounting platforms.

Strong time management and organizational skills.
