Programme Overview
The Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development (MGLSD) invites applications for 50 apprenticeship training opportunities under the National Apprenticeship and Graduate Volunteer (NAGV) Programme. The programme supports Uganda’s national efforts to reduce youth unemployment and underemployment by improving youth transition into employment and strengthening labour productivity.
A core objective of the programme is to promote employment-based skilling for unemployed and underemployed young people aged 16 to 35 years through structured apprenticeship training.
What Apprenticeship Means
Apprenticeship is a structured work-based learning approach that combines:
-
On-the-job training at a host institution under supervision of experienced professionals, and
-
Off-the-job training for technical and theoretical support
The apprenticeship culminates in formal assessment and equips participants with practical competencies required for specific occupations.
The programme is implemented in line with the Employment Act (Cap. 226), Employment Regulations (2011), and the Uganda National Apprenticeship Framework (UNAF, 2018).
