Job Overview
MTN Uganda is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Networking Engineer to join our IT team. The Networking Engineer will be responsible for designing, implementing, maintaining, and supporting our growing network infrastructure. This role will involve working closely with other departments to ensure network reliability, performance, and security.
Key Responsibilities
- Network Design and Implementation: Design, implement, and manage network solutions to support MTN’s business needs, including LAN, WAN, VPN, and wireless networks.
- Network Maintenance: Perform regular network maintenance and upgrades, including software updates, patches, and hardware replacements to ensure network stability and security.
- Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve network issues promptly, minimizing downtime and ensuring efficient network operations.
- Performance Monitoring: Monitor network performance, identify bottlenecks, and take appropriate actions to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
- Security: Implement and maintain network security measures, including firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and encryption protocols to protect against cyber threats.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate network documentation, including network diagrams, configurations, and procedures.
- Vendor Management: Coordinate with vendors and service providers for procurement, maintenance, and support of network equipment and services.
- Compliance: Ensure network infrastructure complies with MTN’s policies, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with other IT professionals and departments to support integrated technology solutions and share knowledge.
- Project Management: Lead and participate in network-related projects, ensuring they are completed on time and within budget.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in network engineering, preferably within a telecommunications environment.
- Certifications: Relevant networking certifications (e.g., Cisco CCNA, CCNP, CompTIA Network+, Juniper JNCIA/JNCIS) are highly desirable.
Skills and Competencies
- Technical Expertise: In-depth knowledge of network protocols, technologies, and architectures, including TCP/IP, OSPF, BGP, MPLS, VLANs, VPNs, and QoS.
- Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills to diagnose and resolve complex network issues.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively collaborate with team members, vendors, and stakeholders.
- Project Management: Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring timely and successful completion.
- Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy and attention to detail in network design, implementation, and documentation.
- Adaptability: Ability to adapt to changing technologies and stay updated with industry trends and best practices.
- Team Player: Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment and contribute to the overall success of the IT department.
