DFCU Bank is seeking a highly experienced and detail-oriented Senior Finance Officer to collate balance sheet reconciliations and provide timely, accurate, and reliable management information in line with internal policies and regulatory requirements.

Role Overview

The Senior Finance Officer will support effective financial control, reporting, budgeting, and risk management by ensuring accurate transaction processing, robust balance sheet management, and high-quality management reporting across the Bank.


Key Accountabilities

Transaction Processing, Budgetary Control, and Compliance

  • Review payment vouchers for supplier invoices, staff advances, and claims to ensure compliance with approved policies and procedures.
  • Ensure all supporting documentation is complete and accurate before processing.
  • Manage monthly recording of capital and operating expenditure, including unpaid commitments and delivered services.
  • Prepare expenditure analysis for OPEX and CAPEX against budget and highlight exceptional approvals.

Management and Financial Reporting

  • Prepare monthly management accounts and supporting schedules with insightful commentary.
  • Analyze and interpret revenue and cost trends across the Bank.
  • Track daily profit and loss performance and escalate income or expense exceptions for corrective action.
  • Track debits to income and review reimbursement memos.

Fixed Assets Management

  • Oversee annual fixed asset verification and maintain the fixed assets register.
  • Update records for additions, disposals, write-offs, and asset tagging.
  • Coordinate with Procurement on asset disposals.

Risk Management

  • Implement recommendations arising from tax and audit reviews.
  • Prepare monthly balance sheet dashboards for all general ledger accounts.
  • Identify areas of concern and follow up on resolution of outstanding issues.

Funding Management

  • Maintain reconciliation schedules for borrowers and long-term funding in line with funder requirements.
  • Maintain trackers for funding mix and interest expense.

Budgeting and Forecasting

  • Support the budgeting and forecasting process by consolidating overhead budget submissions.
  • Engage with departments and branches to validate submissions before handover to Financial Planning and Analysis.

Financial Responsibility

  • Oversee payments and transaction processing.
  • Manage balance sheet reconciliations and reporting.
  • Ensure accurate fixed assets management and financial reporting.

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience Required

Education and Professional Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • Professional accounting qualification from a recognized body such as ACCA, CPA, or CFA.

Experience

  • At least six years’ experience in accounting, preferably within the financial services or banking sector.

Technical and Professional Skills

  • Strong knowledge of IFRS, Ugandan tax legislation, and the Financial Institutions Act.
  • Excellent analytical and numeracy skills.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to prepare and interpret financial reports and dashboards.

Behavioral Competencies

  • Strong communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proactive self-starter with the ability to work independently.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
