Job Summary

MTN Uganda is seeking a highly skilled, strategic, and results-driven Manager – Sales & Commercial to join its Fixed Wholesale Business Unit. The role is responsible for driving revenue growth, managing strategic client relationships, and leveraging Bayobab Uganda’s fixed connectivity infrastructure for both internal group use and external third-party carriers.

The Manager – Sales & Commercial will be tasked with developing wholesale strategies, defining product and service propositions, managing key accounts, and maximizing revenue opportunities. This position offers an exciting opportunity for an experienced professional to influence Uganda’s telecommunications landscape, particularly in fixed broadband, international connectivity, and carrier services.


Key Responsibilities

The Manager – Sales & Commercial will focus on strategic growth, client relationship management, and commercial development in Uganda’s fixed wholesale market. Key responsibilities include:

Strategic Planning & Market Development

  • Develop and implement market strategies aimed at identifying and pursuing high-value wholesale opportunities.

  • Define and execute the wholesale sales strategy, including account and pipeline planning, targeting both domestic and international markets.

  • Constantly monitor sales performance, identify gaps, and implement corrective actions to achieve revenue and unit cost objectives.

  • Collaborate with Bayobab Uganda’s Solution Engineers and Bayobab Group to create innovative commercial propositions for network infrastructure and capacity solutions.

Client Relationship & Sales Management

  • Maintain and grow relationships with high-profile clients, including carriers, operators, capacity providers, and OTTs.

  • Negotiate key contracts, resolve escalations, and ensure client satisfaction across the wholesale portfolio.

  • Lead sales of capacity and connectivity services to domestic and international clients, ensuring alignment with business goals.

  • Represent Bayobab Uganda at industry events, conferences, and professional forums to strengthen company reputation and attract new business opportunities.

Reporting & Performance Tracking

  • Provide detailed sales and market reports, including analysis of third-party wholesale activity for domestic and international services.

  • Track account performance, pipeline progression, and revenue growth against targets.

  • Contribute to budget preparation, financial planning, and strategic forecasting.

Leadership & Team Management

  • Lead, coach, and mentor a team of commercial and technical professionals to enhance performance and professional growth.

  • Foster collaboration across internal departments to achieve sales objectives and deliver superior client experiences.


Qualifications & Education

  • Minimum 4-year academic degree in Commerce, Marketing, Business Administration, or related field.

  • Master’s or Postgraduate degree in Business Administration is an added advantage.

  • Fluent in English and Swahili.


Experience & Competencies

  • 8+ years of sales-related experience, preferably in the telecommunications sector, with experience in wholesale, carrier services, or fixed-line international connectivity.

  • 4+ years managerial experience leading sales or commercial teams.

  • Strong ability to identify key business issues and think creatively and strategically.

  • Proven track record in negotiating and winning large contracts with major clients.

  • Comprehensive understanding of the fixed connectivity landscape, market trends, infrastructure, and commercial requirements.

  • Effective team management skills, including mentoring, coaching, and motivating multidisciplinary teams.

  • Excellent oral and written communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills.

  • High level of computer literacy and familiarity with sales/CRM tools.
