Job Summary

Sokoni Africa Limited is seeking to recruit a skilled, detail-oriented, and results-driven Hotel Cost Controller to join its finance team in Kampala. This role is critical in ensuring the financial health of the hotel by monitoring, analyzing, and controlling operational costs across all departments.

The successful candidate will not only focus on accurate cost reporting but also provide strategic insights and recommendations that will support management in achieving revenue targets, improving profitability, and identifying cost-saving opportunities. Key Responsibilities

As the Hotel Cost Controller at Sokoni Africa Limited, you will be entrusted with a wide range of responsibilities, including:

  • Overseeing cost management across all hotel departments to ensure both revenue maximization and expense control.

  • Developing and implementing cost control policies and standard operating procedures specific to hotel operations.

  • Monitoring food and beverage costs, labor expenses, utilities, and other overheads to ensure they align with budgeted figures.

  • Analyzing financial data, preparing accurate reports on cost trends, variances, and forecasts, and sharing insights with management.

  • Working closely with department heads (kitchen, housekeeping, front office, and procurement) to establish realistic budgets and ensure adherence.

  • Conducting regular audits of spending and inventory levels to prevent mismanagement, stockouts, or wastage.

  • Implementing robust inventory management practices to minimize losses, reduce waste, and improve efficiency.

  • Ensuring compliance with both internal financial guidelines and industry regulations.

  • Preparing and presenting detailed cost analysis reports to management, highlighting areas for corrective action.

  • Supporting the finance team in identifying cost-saving initiatives without compromising service quality.


Required Qualifications, Skills, and Experience

To excel in this role, candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or Hospitality Management from a recognized institution.

  • Proven work experience as a Cost Controller, Cost Accountant, or Finance Officer in the hotel industry or a related field.

  • Strong understanding of hotel operations and cost control principles, including food and beverage costing, payroll management, and departmental budgeting.

  • Proficiency in financial management software, hotel ERP systems, and MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

  • Exceptional analytical and financial reporting skills, with the ability to interpret complex data.

  • High attention to detail, accuracy, and excellent organizational skills.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal abilities for effective collaboration across teams.

  • Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple priorities, and meet strict deadlines.

  • A proactive and results-oriented mindset with strong problem-solving skills.
