Job Summary
DRC Uganda is seeking to recruit a qualified and experienced Driver to support its operations in Kampala and Arua. The successful candidate will be responsible for driving DRC vehicles, transporting staff and goods, and ensuring vehicle safety and maintenance in line with DRC’s operational standards and Uganda traffic laws.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive DRC vehicles safely, following designated travel instructions and observing all traffic regulations.
- Ensure all vehicle documents, including road licenses and insurance, are valid and renewed in a timely manner.
- Perform routine vehicle checks including oil, water, brake fluid, and fan belt tension before each trip.
- Maintain accountability for cargo by inspecting and verifying all items loaded or offloaded, based on provided waybills.
- Keep the vehicle clean and in sound mechanical condition at all times.
- Maintain accurate vehicle logbooks and submit monthly mileage reports to the supervisor.
- Ensure that safety equipment (first aid kit, jack, spare wheel, fire extinguisher, warning triangle) is always available and in good condition.
- Report any accidents, damage, or mechanical issues immediately to the supervisor or Supply Chain Officer.
- Support DRC’s emergency response activities as required.
- Provide assistance to staff and visitors, and help troubleshoot transportation issues.
- Uphold DRC's ethical standards and represent the organization in a professional manner at all times.
Qualifications and Experience
- Valid Ugandan driving license with Class B and D1, held for at least 3 years.
- Minimum of Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) / Ordinary Level Certificate.
- Minimum of 5 years’ driving experience, preferably with an international NGO (INGO).
- Fluent in English – both written and spoken.
- Computer literacy – basic proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Knowledge of routes in Kampala, Arua, and surrounding areas, including humanitarian field sites.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Proven experience working under minimal supervision and managing time effectively.
- Good teamwork and coordination abilities.
- Ability to work in a multicultural and cross-functional environment.
- Experience with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems is an added advantage.
- Possession of a Defensive Driving Certificate is desirable.
- A certificate in automotive mechanics is a strong added advantage.
