SOS Children’s Villages Uganda is seeking a highly qualified Internal Auditor to oversee risk management and audit functions across its programs. The Internal Auditor will lead efforts in strengthening the internal audit function, advise senior management, and ensure technical integrity and presentation of audit and risk findings throughout the organization. This position requires a professional with strong ethical values, analytical skills, and a deep understanding of audit and compliance within the INGO sector.Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership for internal audit and risk management functions.
- Develop and coordinate internal auditing procedures and policies.
- Conduct risk-based audits on financial, operational, and compliance objectives.
- Identify areas of significant business risk and recommend appropriate controls.
- Evaluate the adequacy and effectiveness of internal controls, policies, and procedures.
- Coordinate with external auditors and manage audit findings and implementation.
- Advise executives and managers on policy and procedural issues.
- Prepare quarterly and annual reports for the Risk and Audit Committee and National Director.
- Ensure timely follow-up on audit recommendations and board directives.
- Monitor organizational compliance with internal and external regulations.
- Maintain confidentiality and integrity in handling sensitive data.
Safeguarding Responsibilities
- Integrate safeguarding principles across all audit and management processes.
- Promote awareness and implementation of safeguarding policies within the organization.
- Monitor compliance and report any safeguarding concerns per organizational procedures.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- At least 7 years of audit experience, preferably in a reputable organization or INGO.
- Professional certifications such as ACCA, CPA, CIA, ACA, or equivalent are mandatory.
- Membership in ICPAU and/or Internal Audit Charter of Uganda is required.
- Proven experience conducting risk-based audits and reporting to senior management.
- Strong understanding of international audit standards and compliance frameworks.
- Ability to lead audit teams and manage cross-functional collaboration.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and presentation skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and audit-related systems.
- Willingness to travel to field locations as required.
