Packaging Artisan

Full-Time | Location: Jinja, Uganda
Deadline: 4th July 2025

Nile Breweries Limited, the leading beer manufacturer in Uganda and part of AB InBev, is hiring a Packaging Artisan. The role involves maintaining, calibrating, repairing, and optimizing plant equipment and process control systems to ensure consistent production quality, plant reliability, and safe operations.


Key Responsibilities:

1. Ensure Safety and Compliance

  • Maintain a safe and healthy working environment in accordance with safety, health, and environmental (SHE) standards.

  • Report unsafe conditions or acts and ensure compliance with all legislation and internal procedures.

  • Handle and dispose of hazardous chemicals according to guidelines.

  • Maintain proper housekeeping standards in your area.

2. Maintain and Optimize Equipment

  • Locate equipment, spares, and related documentation to support repair and maintenance work.

  • Perform preventative and reactive maintenance, calibration, and repairs on plant and process equipment.

  • Improve process equipment, optimize spare usage, and support in the planning and execution of overhauls.

  • Operate, monitor, and troubleshoot plant systems.

3. Provide Technical Support

  • Resolve and eliminate recurring machine or system issues.

  • Provide support during breakdowns and unplanned maintenance activities.

  • Propose and implement machine capability improvements (efficiency, safety, quality, usage).

  • Perform machine audits and feedback findings to relevant teams.

4. Inventory & Spare Parts Management

  • Optimize usage of engineering spares and consumables.

  • Conduct ABC analysis and manage satellite store inventory.

  • Ensure availability and proper management of rotable spares.

5. Teamwork and Communication

  • Work collaboratively within cross-functional teams.

  • Contribute to team learning, performance reviews, and development.

6. Apply VPO (Voyager Plant Optimization) Principles

  • Maintain 5S standards at the workstation.

  • Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for operational control.

  • Participate in structured problem-solving (e.g., 5 Why, QFR development, loop closure, escalations).

  • Contribute to initiatives such as condition-based maintenance, quality-based maintenance, and set-up time reduction.

  • Support continuous improvement programs (e.g., ABR and PIPs).

  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

  • Effective team player with the ability to engage across multiple levels

  • High energy and self-motivation


Minimum Requirements:

  • Trade-tested Millwright or Electromechanical Artisan qualification

  • 3–6 months of on-the-job training (including vendor-specific maintenance)

  • Experience in electrical and instrumentation maintenance

  • Knowledge of packaging, brewing, and utilities processes and equipment

  • Exposure to brewing and E&F plant operations is highly desirable
