About the Role

Standard Bank Uganda is seeking a strategic and visionary Head of Transaction Banking (TXB) to lead the bank’s transaction banking agenda. This role is instrumental in driving innovation, maintaining franchise positioning, and delivering end-to-end client-centric solutions in emerging and existing client ecosystems across Uganda.

The successful candidate will influence the country’s transaction banking priorities, lead high-performance teams, and ensure sustainable profitability across a complex product portfolio while enhancing Standard Bank’s competitive edge in a rapidly evolving digital banking landscape.


Key Responsibilities

  • Franchise Development & Stakeholder Engagement
    Build and maintain relationships with regulators and industry players to ensure compliance with local licensing standards and adapt solutions to fit local market needs.

  • Client-Centric Solutioning
    Drive client-centric solution design aligned with TXB and Client Coverage strategies across multinational and sector-based clients, ensuring consistent client experience and retention.

  • Team Leadership & Thought Leadership
    Lead agile, high-performing teams focused on productivity, innovation, and market leadership. Foster subject matter expertise and promote thought leadership within the TXB team.

  • Digital Innovation & Partnerships
    Monitor fintech trends and form strategic partnerships to identify and deploy local and scalable digital solutions, enhancing the bank’s value proposition to multinational clients.

  • Financial & Risk Management
    Oversee country-level revenue, return on equity, and profitability across the TXB product mix. Make strategic trade-offs, potentially as a voting ALCO member, in the best interest of the franchise.

  • Risk & Governance Ownership
    Take joint accountability for business, credit, and operational risk decisions across the value chain to ensure responsible and sustainable business growth.


Qualifications and Experience

Minimum Academic Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Commerce, or a related field from a recognized institution.

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 10 years of management experience in Transaction Banking, including direct exposure to transaction products and client solutions.

  • 3–4 years of proven board or committee-level participation (e.g., ALCO, Credit, BS&R, New Business).

  • Strong expertise in product structuring and cross-functional product line integration.

  • Demonstrated ability to drive strategy, financial performance, and team leadership.

  • Sound understanding of FinTech trends and digital transformation in financial services.
