About the Role

Tropical Bank Ltd is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Accountant to join our Finance & Administration Department. The successful candidate will be responsible for day-to-day financial operations, preparation of regulatory reports, tax submissions, transaction processing, and supporting budgeting and compliance efforts.


Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare timely and accurate monthly financial reports for management and regulatory stakeholders.

  • Maintain and update the general ledger to reflect all financial transactions.

  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, including management of fixed assets.

  • Assist with the preparation of BOU reports, tax filings, and other statutory submissions.

  • Process financial transactions including journal entries, bank reconciliations, accounts payable, and receivable.

  • Prepare and reconcile suspense and Nostro accounts regularly.

  • Support the preparation and posting of month-end provisions and amortization schedules.

  • Analyse actual vs budget performance and explain variances.

  • Contribute to budget formulation by consolidating departmental and branch inputs.

  • Prepare accurate payment vouchers, seek approval, and post into the Core Banking System.

  • Verify and update the fixed asset register in coordination with the Administration team.

  • Review off-balance sheet items and confirm accuracy with the Credit department.

  • Compile and ensure timely submission of regulatory returns.

  • Implement auditor recommendations and support internal control enhancements.

  • Participate in ad-hoc financial projects and support other finance team members as needed.


Qualifications and Experience

Education & Certification

  • Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field.

  • Enrollment in a professional accounting certification program (ACCA, CPA) is required.

Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in banking or accounting.

  • Proven experience with regulatory reporting and financial statement preparation is an added advantage.


Key Skills and Competencies

  • Strong numerical and analytical skills.

  • Proficiency in accounting principles and financial management.

  • Familiarity with IFRS and Ugandan tax laws.

  • Excellent communication and presentation abilities.

  • High ethical standards, integrity, and attention to detail.

  • Strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities.

  • Strong interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills.

  • Fluency in English (written and spoken).

  • Proficiency in accounting software and Core Banking Systems is an advantage.
