ABSA Bank Uganda is hiring a Governance and Control Consultant to support the execution of assurance reviews, enhance risk and control culture, and deliver independent risk management and advisory services. This role plays a critical part in improving the bank’s control environment and aligning it with performance objectives and compliance standards.

Key Responsibilities

1. Execute Assurance Assignments

• Plan and conduct assurance reviews to evaluate internal control effectiveness and policy compliance.

• Perform Management Assurance Control Effectiveness Evaluations (CEE), including SOX and contracted reviews.

• Deliver interim feedback and draft findings for review and final reporting.

• Support audit letter requests, customer due diligence reviews, and conduct risk assessments.

2. Operational Support & Administration

• Maintain effective relationships with business unit staff and assurance colleagues.

• Provide guidance and clarification on control weaknesses.

• Update managers on progress and maintain professionalism in all interactions.

• Contribute positively to team image, adhere to dress code, and participate in team-building or CSR activities.

3. Governance Forum Participation

• Represent or support the Head of Integrated Testing/Assurance in key governance forums and country-level committees.

4. Stakeholder Relationship Management

• Ensure timely execution of assigned assurance activities.

• Produce quality working papers and reports aligned with the Assurance Methodology.

• Support administrative responsibilities and policy adherence.

5. Risk and Control Advisory

• Serve as the central point of contact for risk, control, and governance queries across the business and with Absa Africa stakeholders.

• Proactively assist in enhancing the risk and control culture bank-wide.

6. Risk, Governance, and Compliance

• Ensure all duties comply with regulatory requirements and Absa’s Risk Management Framework.

• Identify and manage risks or incidents relevant to the role.

Key Performance Indicators

• Timely and complete execution of assurance reviews.

• Quality of reports and actionable issue resolution.

• Reliable delivery of Management Information (MI).

• Adherence to Absa’s risk and compliance standards.

Qualifications & Experience

Minimum Requirements:

• University degree in Accounting, Business, or Economics.

• At least 2 years in an assurance function.

• Minimum 1 year of experience in control-related activities.

Desirable:

• Professional certifications in audit, assurance, or compliance (e.g., ACCA, CPA, CIA, CISA, CRISC, CRMA).

• Higher Diplomas in Business, Commerce, or Management Studies.
