Reinsurance and Credit Control Accountant [year]

CIC Insurance is hiring a Reinsurance and Credit Control Accountant to strengthen our financial operations by accelerating net cash inflow for investment purposes. The successful candidate will ensure that direct and reinsurance debt is kept minimal, while enforcing strict compliance with our internal credit policy and the regulations set by the Insurance Regulatory Authority of Uganda.Key Responsibilities
Reinsurance Management
- Compile and process quarterly reinsurance returns.
- Reconcile with reinsurers and reinsurance brokers for timely premium settlements.
- Coordinate with the claims department to ensure prompt notification and follow-up on treaty and facultative claims.
- Prepare accurate quarterly and annual reinsurance reconciliation statements.
- Review and audit system reinsurance transactions monthly for accuracy and completeness.
Credit Control
- Reconcile client and intermediary statements and guide correct receipting.
- Collaborate with underwriting and claims teams to share monthly statements and follow up on collections.
- Oversee and process payments to intermediaries for approval.
- Supervise cashiers and credit control officers to ensure proper receipting and timely banking of premiums.
- Follow up on commitments made in approved payment plans and generate reports on external debt recovery.
- Reverse bounced cheques and engage clients for replacements; submit monthly reports.
- Check RTGS, EFT, and IPF remittances and facilitate receipting within 2 days.
Reconciliations & Monthly Duties
- Perform sticker and COMESA card reconciliations.
- Share and reconcile monthly statements with intermediaries and reinsurers.
- Ensure all premiums are receipted within 30 days.
- Submit allocation details to the cashier by the last day of each month for timely period closure.
Other Duties
- Perform other tasks as assigned by management in line with the role.
Qualifications and Experience
Academic
- Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, Actuarial Science, Statistics, Business Administration, or a related field from a recognized institution.
- A Master’s Degree in a business-related field is an added advantage.
Professional Qualifications
- CPA (U) or ACCA certification is mandatory.
Experience
- At least three (3) years of relevant experience in a similar role, preferably in the insurance or financial services industry.
Skills and Competencies
- Strong understanding of insurance industry regulations and compliance requirements.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and reconciliation skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and accounting software.
- Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
