Graduate Trainee – Project Engineer

Department: Projects and Construction
Reports to: Senior Electrical Projects Engineer

UEDCL is offering an exciting opportunity for fresh graduates to join as Graduate Trainees – Project Engineers. The trainees will support the Electrical Projects team in the design, installation, commissioning, and oversight of power distribution network projects. This hands-on role provides exposure to real-world engineering challenges and builds foundational skills in both technical and project management areas.


Role Impact

As a Graduate Trainee, you will contribute directly to the successful implementation of UEDCL’s infrastructure projects. Through mentorship, on-site engagement, and project exposure, you will gain practical insights and contribute to the expansion and reliability of Uganda’s electrical distribution network.


Key Responsibilities (Key Result Areas)

  • Participate in on-the-job training in electrical system design, project planning, and field supervision.

  • Assist with preparing basic electrical designs, reviewing technical drawings, and compiling bill of quantities.

  • Gain practical knowledge of distribution infrastructure, safety codes, and technical standards.

  • Accompany engineers on site visits to assist in inspections, measurements, and compliance assessments.

  • Track and record material usage, delivery logs, and work progress at project sites.

  • Assist with updating inspection logs, setting up equipment, and preparing technical documentation.

  • Participate in safety briefings, toolbox talks, and follow UEDCL safety and regulatory guidelines.

  • Maintain a personal training log of technical knowledge acquired and field observations.

  • Document project progress with photographic records, site notes, and reports.

  • Attend project meetings and technical briefings to gain exposure to multidisciplinary coordination.

  • Support general coordination of electrical components within broader construction activities.


Expected Outcomes

  • Developing technical proficiency in electrical distribution systems and installations.

  • Clear understanding of project workflows, team collaboration, and documentation practices.

  • Demonstrated commitment to safety, professionalism, and continuous learning.

  • Active contribution to field activities, reporting, and minor technical tasks.

  • Readiness to transition into entry-level engineering roles upon program completion.


Person Specifications

Academic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.

  • Must have graduated within the last three (3) years from a recognized institution.

Experience:

  • No prior work experience required.

Core Competencies:

  • Basic understanding of electrical systems and power distribution principles.

  • Willingness to learn and contribute in both field and office settings.

  • Strong attention to detail and a safety-first mindset.

  • Good communication skills (verbal and written).

  • Problem-solving attitude and interest in infrastructure development.
