Graduate Trainee – Switchgear Maintenance

Department: Maintenance Department
Reports to: Senior Switchgear Maintenance Engineer

UEDCL is seeking a motivated and proactive Graduate Trainee – Switchgear Maintenance to support its Switchgear Maintenance Team. The trainee will actively participate in routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and repairs of high- and medium-voltage switchgear equipment. This opportunity is ideal for recent electrical engineering graduates looking to gain hands-on field experience and deepen their technical understanding in a high-voltage operational setting.


Key Responsibilities (Key Result Areas)

  • Support inspection and maintenance of switchgear components such as circuit breakers, isolators, and control panels.

  • Learn proper use of maintenance tools, instruments, and safety equipment under supervision.

  • Assist in troubleshooting and diagnostics by performing basic tests and documenting fault symptoms.

  • Participate in updating maintenance logs, service records, and preparing kits for field operations.

  • Adhere strictly to safety protocols, including risk assessment, PPE use, and lockout/tagout procedures.

  • Attend technical training sessions on switchgear operations, maintenance procedures, and safety practices.

  • Shadow experienced engineers to observe procedures and gradually apply engineering concepts in the field.

  • Maintain detailed logs of learning experiences, activities, and outcomes.


Expected Outcomes

  • Active engagement in routine maintenance and minor repair tasks.

  • Clear understanding of safety protocols, electrical systems, and maintenance procedures.

  • Completion of training milestones as per structured learning plan.

  • Contribution to accurate reporting and documentation of maintenance activities.

  • Demonstrated readiness for independent technical work by the end of the program.


Qualifications & Competencies

Academic Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or a related discipline.

  • Graduated within the last three (3) years from a recognized institution.

  • Basic academic knowledge of electrical systems (through coursework, labs, or internships).

Experience:

  • No prior professional experience required.

Key Competencies:

  • Strong willingness to learn and adapt to field-based environments.

  • Awareness of electrical safety principles and personal protective practices.

  • Ability to follow instructions, work in teams, and demonstrate initiative.

  • Attention to detail and good organizational skills.

  • Strong communication and collaboration abilities.
