About the Opportunity
Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL) invites applications from recent graduates for the position of Graduate Trainee – Underground Network Maintenance. This role provides a practical entry point into underground electrical network operations and maintenance, offering valuable exposure to cable systems, diagnostics, and emergency response processes.
Under supervision, the trainee will assist the maintenance team in inspections, testing, and fault-handling of underground cables and related infrastructure while adhering to electrical safety standards and operating procedures.
Impact of the Role
The Graduate Trainee plays a vital support role in ensuring the safety and reliability of the underground electrical distribution network. Through hands-on learning, the trainee contributes to operational efficiency and system uptime while developing technical expertise for future engineering responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities

Participate in on-the-job training covering underground cable systems, safety standards, and diagnostic methods.

Assist in routine inspections, minor repairs, and emergency response activities.

Shadow engineers and technicians during site operations involving cables, joints, transformers, and switchgear.

Help with equipment setup, cable labeling, and site preparation for maintenance work.

Observe and support fault location techniques, such as insulation resistance and continuity testing.

Learn to use basic electrical test tools and follow guidance in safe tool handling.

Adhere to Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements and site-specific safety protocols.

Record daily activities, learning outcomes, and field exposure in a structured trainee logbook.

Assist in drafting simple technical reports and maintenance summaries under supervision.

Take part in site briefings, safety drills, and cross-departmental operations.

Collaborate with planning or engineering teams during inspections or planned outages.

Minimum Qualifications
Education:
-
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or a related discipline.

Must have graduated within the past three (3) years from a recognized institution.
Experience:

No prior work experience is required.
