Position: Project Officer – Medical Countermeasures (MCM)
Type: Full-time
Position Summary
The Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI) is seeking a qualified and motivated Project Officer – Medical Countermeasures (MCM) to support the implementation of activities related to the development, deployment, and monitoring of medical countermeasures in Uganda. The successful candidate will work closely with the Ministry of Health (MoH), international development partners, and other stakeholders to ensure effective coordination, regulatory support, and documentation for MCM initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Support
-
Support coordination and implementation of MCM-related activities, including preparedness, response, and recovery.

Assist in developing and implementing pharmacovigilance and drug safety surveillance systems.

Contribute to the creation of guidelines, SOPs, and training materials for diagnostics, vaccines, and therapeutics.

Assist in data collection, analysis, and reporting on MCM deployment and safety monitoring.

Document and share lessons learned, success stories, and best practices.
Project Coordination

Liaise with MoH departments, regional teams, and partners to ensure smooth execution of project activities.

Organize and participate in stakeholder meetings, including those focused on pharmacovigilance, immunization, and emergency response coordination.

Track progress against project deliverables and timelines, ensuring compliance with the approved work plan.

Prepare technical reports, presentations, and updates for stakeholders and donors.
Stakeholder Engagement
-
Maintain active communication with national and regional partners to promote information sharing and collaboration.
-
Represent the project in relevant technical working groups and coordination meetings.
-
Support regional MCM implementation with partners such as CDC, WHO, GAVI, CEPI, Africa CDC, and others.
Qualifications & Experience
-
Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy (required).
-
Master’s degree in Advanced Biomedical Sciences, Implementation Science, or a related field (added advantage).
-
Minimum of 3 years’ experience in public health program implementation, especially in emergency preparedness, immunization programs (EPI), clinical trial coordination, or pharmaceutical regulation.

Familiarity with Uganda’s health system, MoH structures, and the national regulatory environment.

Experience working with international donors and development agencies is desirable.

Strong communication, coordination, and interpersonal skills.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office and data management tools.
