About the Role

Hima Cement Limited is seeking a highly skilled Automation Engineer to oversee and enhance the performance of plant automation hardware and software systems. The role is pivotal in ensuring compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations while optimizing system performance to support plant efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

1. Maintenance Operations

• Develop logic diagrams, PLC programs, and CCR graphic displays for new or upgraded equipment.

• Integrate and commission hardware/software modifications with proper documentation.

• Troubleshoot, repair, and report control system failures with technical accuracy.

• Maintain, calibrate, and document plant instruments (e.g., weigh feeders, gas analyzers, VFDs, dust monitors, CEMS, sensors, and fire alarms).

• Maintain readiness for emergency interventions and critical repairs (N+1 programming logic).

• Ensure the timely procurement of automation-related spare parts.

2. Plant Optimization

• Update and distribute General Function Specifications (GFSs) for new or modified systems.

• Design and optimize control loops to improve equipment reliability and plant efficiency.

• Support the development and implementation of SOPs for system operations.

• Ensure data integrity between plant equipment and control systems.

• Collaborate with the IT team on the setup and use of tools like QMC, TIS, and High-Level Control systems.

• Propose plant optimization initiatives focused on power saving, cost efficiency, and equipment longevity.

3. Management – Planning & Cost Control

• Implement validated Design Change Requests (DCRs) and ensure proper documentation and backup.

• Maintain updated records of software versions, alarm/fault logs, and password databases.

• Identify sensitive data and ensure its secure storage and traceability.

• Support budget control activities for automation systems, ensuring effective maintenance planning.

4. Standards & Compliance

• Adhere to company and industry standards related to plant control systems.

• Provide technical training to plant personnel to ensure efficient system usage.

• Ensure full compliance with internal policies, regulatory standards, and plant goals.

5. Health, Safety & Environment (OH&S)

• Foster a strong safety culture and commit to achieving zero harm.

• Comply with HSE policies and participate in all safety and environment-related training.

• Maintain clean, organized, and safe work environments.

Qualifications, Skills & Experience

Education

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering.

Experience

• At least 5 years of experience in electrical and instrumentation maintenance within a cement or heavy industry environment.

• Hands-on experience with Siemens PCS 7 DCS, S7 PLC (S7-300, S7-400), SIMATIC MANAGER, and OPC Servers.

Technical Skills

• PLC programming proficiency (Siemens, C, VB).

• Skilled in the use and maintenance of automation instruments and electrical systems.

• Deep understanding of cement manufacturing processes and associated control systems.

• Familiarity with FMEA, RCA, and problem-solving tools.

• Competence in operating cement plant equipment (e.g., crushers, vertical roller mills, kilns, reclaimers, bag filters, and packing lines).
