MDR-TB Program Specialist

Deadline: 19th June 2025 Location: Uganda Type: Contract Ministry of Health Jobs - In collaboration with the Ministry of Health (MoH) – National TB and Leprosy Division, the USAID LPHS-TB Activity seeks a dedicated MDR-TB Program Specialist. This role is critical in delivering life-saving services to patients with drug-resistant TB (DR-TB), with a focus on clinical and critical care in line with national and international treatment guidelines. The specialist will collaborate with regional implementing partners (IPs), district health teams, and health facilities to integrate DR-TB services effectively. The role also involves supporting program monitoring, evaluation, and learning efforts in coordination with the MEL Officer.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver targeted clinical care to MDR-TB patients at underperforming treatment sites.
  • Develop and implement MDR-TB work plans and periodic reports.
  • Lead implementation of the full PMDT continuum of care, including case finding, TB/HIV integration, and infection control.
  • Convene expert DR-TB committee meetings and technical working groups.
  • Apply and build capacity in TB pharmacovigilance systems (aDSM).
  • Identify and mitigate technical and programmatic gaps through quality improvement.
  • Report learning and adaptation insights, including innovations and peer learning.
  • Strengthen supply chain, laboratory systems, and PMDT service delivery with MoH tools.
  • Represent the project in TB-related national and international forums.
  • Integrate DR-TB services with broader health programs for holistic care.
  • Train frontline staff in molecular diagnostics, DR-TB treatment, and infection control.
  • Perform any other relevant duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Required: MBChB (Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery)
  • Preferred: MMED in Internal Medicine or MPH in Public Health

  • Willingness to travel extensively.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and teamwork mindset.
